2017 Syracuse Urban Education Conference: Mindfulness & Improving Classroom Behaviors

Wednesday, November 1, 2017

Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center

801 University Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210

We are proud to present our featured keynote speakers:

Humorous Motivational Speaker Tim Clue

Tim Clue is a professional, writer, stand-up comic and award winning teacher who believes that speaking and learning should be dynamic, interactive, collaborative, ideally funny (for better stickiness) and should allow for failure, reinvention and plenty of wiggle room. Tim also believes that comfort with discomfort is essential for growth. What if, instead of a blah blah blah lecture on these basics truths, Tim asks us to take a journey—through the use of his improv experiences and dialogue—to learn, laugh and collaborate with him on what we already know but often forget: The Art of Connection is Timeless. Please join Tim in understanding Why.

Shawn Hardnett

Above all, Shawn Hardnett is a teacher. A product of the community that he serves, he knows their challenges well. Of the 29 boys he grew up with, 17 spent time in prison, 3 are known dead, 5 graduated from high school and only one – Shawn – finished college. In more than 20 years as Teacher, Administrator, School Founder and Leader, National Level Leadership Trainer, Developer and Coach as well as Charter Management Organization Chief of Schools, his work has raised the profile of the organizations that he served, led to significant academic and organizational gains and significantly shifted outcomes for children, especially male students of urban poverty.

Some of our breakout session speakers include: Mara Sapon-Shevin, Dr. Roberta Schnorr, and Julie Daniels from Yoga for Kids CNY
