TERRA ELL CONFERENCE WAS A SUCCESS
Terra Science and Education in conjunction with the University at Buffalo brought leading ELL experts, Dr. Claude Goldenberg and Dr. Yasukp Kanno, Ph.D, as keynotes for the 2016 Buffalo English Language Learners Conference Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Buffalo Marriott.
This year’s conference focused on topics ranging from “English Learners in US Schools: Research, Findings, and Directions for the Future” to “Practical steps for fostering collaboration between content and ESOL teachers within the context of co-teaching.” Participants spent the day learning about the latest ELL research and collaborating with other professionals and experts to develop best practices to bring back to the classroom.
Breakout session speakers included: Gerald H. Campano, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chair of the Reading/Writing/Literacy Division at University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education; Sydney Snyder, Ph.D., Senior Associate with DSF Consulting, LLC; Lissette M. Colon-Collins, Tanya Amodio-Kovacs and Laura Arpey, New York State Education Department; Francesco Fratto, Director of English as a New Language for the Herricks Public School; and Helaine W. Marshall, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Education and Director of Language Education Programs at Long Island University-Hudson.
